Fly Fishing Tips and Techniques
Wind
A strong wind helps to remedy strong light so long as the wind is not too cold. A South West wind is ideal, a North Easterly is nearly always a marker to poor fishing. A wind blowing from the sun is difficult to fish, particularly in a boat as the fish are heading into the sun as your fly is fishing towards them.

A moist wind helps to keep the hatching flies delayed on the later surface as they try to dry their wings for flight whereas a dry wind can see flies hatch and fly off in one action.

Dull, warm, moist days that have been settled this way over a few days and with a good breeze from the South West can be deadly and the best fish are caught on such days. It is worth reflecting that in a typical season such days where all the conditions are right can number only 2 or 3 occasions.
