Fly Fishing Tips and Techniques
Fishing and Water Temperature
At a normal temperature of 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit in a stream, fish will feed in a steady pattern because the conditions are comfortable to them. This temperature may be slightly higher in lakes. As the water warms it holds less oxygen and the trout begin to breathe faster causing their digestive process to slow. Colder extremes can also put fish off food and put them down into deeper water and at the same time many flies do not hatch in cold water. When the surface of a sheet of water is cold trout are driven down.
